Today’s Green Icon is a person Damien Mulley has described as ‘very engaging, very funny and massively clever’, and if you have ever seen him speaking, you will know why.
Jonathon Porritt is Programme Director of Forum for the Future and Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, the UK's leading sustainable development charity. He is an eminent writer, broadcaster and commentator on sustainable development, and has a green CV as long as most politicians noses as they ‘talk green’.
Why the iconic status? He is a practical man. We can talk about revolution and mull over the mistakes of the past, but Jonathon sees the world as it is today and looks to how we can shape this global way of life of ours into a something sustainable.
His book, Capitalism: As If The World Matters, is a master class, and should become standard text in the near future. Capitalism, he argues, is the only real game in town, and for the foreseeable future no one can truly argue with that in any realistic way. As such, how do we as the human race ensure that we evolve out current system into something more sustainable?
This is important because it is an all-inclusive, non-biased approach, and anyone who has read the reports will understand that we are all in this together, even if some of us are misguided.
You can check out his blog here. Trust us this is one to keep an eye on going forward. A lot of it is English based news but it’s extremely topical and engaging, and you soon learn that this man has his finger on the sustainable pulse.
