Nuclear Fallout

Nuclear power is back at the top of the political agenda with the UK.

Is nuclear power the answer?

Should there be a new generation of nuclear reactors?

Given that nuclear is back in the news, are you pro or anti nuclear? and what are your reasons?

Putting aside the debate about the safety and actual efficiency of nuclear power, I believe it is an insane route to plow our precious remaining cash and resources into.

This is simply because it is unsustainable; the uranium fuel is finite and will therefore present the same problems as fossil fuels when it eventually becomes scarce.

Uranium fuel will be available for at least 80 years even allowing for the new nuclear plants that are being built. Given that these plants are expected to run for 60 years, this means there is plenty of fuel to last their lifetime.

Some nuclear plants should be built to try to halt the rise in greenhouse gases.

These would replace dirty and ever more expensive fossil fired plants, and would buy us some time to develop all forms of renewable energy.
