Recently inspired by footage of the Eastern Garbage Patch, a vast floating island of plastic bigger than Texas, in the Pacific I have vowed to stop buying my 2 under-fives those terribly expensive toddler magazines whenever they sport a useless hunk of plastic as a 'free-gift' on the front - I will still allow the more benign free-gifts like drawing pads and sticker sets but the fake and plastic mobile phones and tiaras are just such a waste of materials and only contribute to the plastic waste of our time, never mind the fact they get played with for all of 5 minutes before being consigned to the 'never played with again' mountain we are stuck wondering how best to dispose of.
For parents trying to reduce the patter of their tiny carbon footprints.

Here here! I just bought my partners kid a power-rangers comic with a free blow up sword. When we open the packet wooooo! it stank of petrochemical nastiness! Made in China where lets face it there has been an issue or two with toxic paints. Lets go back to bananas on strings!

Bananas on strings? Wow, I'm booking my ticket to Ireland as we speak...
Seriously though, I don't think we'd make it through a meal out without a toddler magazine with some stickers on the front. As for the plastic ones - burn them! Burn them! Oh, is that not the idea? ;-)
