I use a Diva Cup (http://www.divacup.com/) and some days I forget I'm even wearing it :) I also carry an organic cotton applicator free tampon in my purse in case I'm caught by surprise. If you don't make the switch for the environment, make it for the money you'll save!

Perhaps a good transition goal is the biodegradable sanitary products that work just as well as the plastic coated ones. Available in health food stores.

did the whole real nappy lark and then realised that now my bins weren't full of used nappies the only thing that I couldn't recycle, reuse or compost was the bin full of yucky sanitary products every month. Switched to the Mooncup 6 months ago - and to tell you the truth girls, my only regret is the 24 years previous that I didn't use it, I even look forward to my periods now, so easy, so effective (no leaks)and so cheap (18 pounds to buy and I have already saved twice that in the last 6months) go on give it a go and don't be embarrassed by this most personal or goals
