I love traveling by train, especially in Europe (fast, efficient, relatively cheap) - it's fun and part of the holiday. Although I don't fly in the UK (with one exception in an emergency earlier this year), the trains are too damn expensive!!

After taking the train from London to Brussels recently, I'm looking forward to more European train travel. No queues, so quick and a beautiful station at St Pancras - heartily recommended!

Having just bought a train ticket from London to Munich (£200) I can believe it. And yes, it is mad. I guess (or perhaps just hope) that the more people travel by train, the cheaper it gets.

Same experience here with the TGV from Amsterdam to Avignon.

there´s not much hope on my side, that train travel will get cheaper by more people using it..in fact-over here it get´s more expensive every year..it´s a big business & not owned by the state..
on the other side..what´s the mad thing is more how cheap flying has become within Europe..& the whole system behind that cheap flying thing is an absolutely disaster 4 mother nature..wonder when this will reach it´s climax??

Whilst it is more expensive for the actual ticket, for me at least the cost of getting to and from the train stations is barely anything compared to having to get the train to the airport. Plus if you work out your hourly rate for work and then add the cost of the time you spend waiting around in the airport, the ticket price doesn't seem so cheap!
